The jury was out just five hours Wednesday evening before reaching a verdict of guilty in the case of Harold M. Howard.
Attorneys finished their arguments a few minutes before 3 o’clock and after receiving the instructions from the court the jury took the case, at 3:13, they returned with their verdict at 8:13. It is understood that the jury stood eleven for conviction from the first ballot and the one other juryman changed his verdict after the many hours of deliberation.
Howard was sentenced this morning by Judge Ellison to the minimum sentence of a fine of $500. In default of payment the defendant would serve two hundred and fifty days in the county jail.
The judgment of the court cites that $500 cash bail being on deposit with the county clerk, that the same be used for paying of the fine and upon payment the defendant be discharged from custody.
