Got a parking ticket? You'll now pay more than double - Tennessean

If you are a parking scofflaw in Nashville, get ready to pay up.

Metro parking tickets will now cost you $25 — up from $11.

The fine increase was approved by Metro Council in a unanimous vote Tuesday night. The increased fine will affect tickets for parking illegally or overstaying a meter.

The proposal is a recycled component of the much debated and now dead private parking deal, in which Mayor David Briley's administration sought to turn over Nashville's on-street parking management to a private company.

This year's budget has a $34 million budget hole as it banked on a successful parking deal. The increased ticket fine is expected to produce about $1 million in revenue to help fill the budget gap.
