Tuesday: St. Louis City, County Libraries Are Officially Fine-Free - St. Louis Public Radio

This interview will be on “St. Louis on the Air” during the noon hour Tuesday. This story will be updated after the show. You can listen live.

On Monday, St. Louis Public Library and St. Louis County Library both went fine-free, meaning that patrons will no longer be charged fees for returning library materials after their due dates.

With this move, the two systems join a growing number of major metropolitan library districts across the U.S. — including Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Kansas City and Chicago — that have eliminated fines for their users in an effort to increase access and equity within the communities they serve.

On Tuesday’s St. Louis on the Air, leaders from both local systems will join host Sarah Fenske to discuss the significance of this shift for library users in the region.

They include Waller McGuire, CEO of St. Louis Public Library, and Kristen Sorth, director of St. Louis County Library.
