A labour hire provider in Queensland, Australia, was fined AUD 60,000 for operating without a licence, the Queensland government announced. It marked the third time a labour hire firm had been successfully prosecuted under the state’s “Labour Hire Licensing Act 2017.”

The prosecution followed a tip that the company, Monstershield Pty Ltd, did not have a licence but was supplying workers to pick grapes from November 2018 to January 2019, according to the government.

Monstershield had at one time applied for a labour hire licence, but the application was withdrawn on 22 November 2018 because it failed to provide information about its compliance record, according to the government. The company at the time received a written warning that it was not permitted to provide labour hire services.

For labour hire licence violations, corporations can face maximum fines of up to AUD 400,350; for individuals, the fine is almost AUD 138,000 or three years imprisonment.
